The trick too it is use bigger balls , .530 in the bore next too a .648

But in reality, it’s only a little over 1/4 inch difference between the two…😁

You still have to hit the card fairly close too center or you’ll only cut it part of the way…
Which is a miss..👍🤣
 
Always used the same .50 cal. for card , and split the ball on the ax shoot. Can't ever remember missing. HOWEVER..........snuffing the wick out on a candle , at dusk , never did that , couldn't get the hang of it. instead of cutting the flame off , either was clean miss , or severed the wax candle , looser.
 
Our card shoots are around 10 paces. Years ago I went to a rendezvous in Oregon where we bought a tin cup for I don't remember how much, maybe 5 bucks. The cup had some tape covering the handle. If you shot through the handle and put a hole in the tape you done good but I don't remember what was the prize. If you blew up the cup or shot the handle off you got to keep the cup.
That was the same rendezvous where the knife and hawk throw was in front of a knee deep and cold mountain crick. If you missed the block you got to wade out and get your knife or hawk.
