Don't know if I'll tackle carving a stock but I picked these up at an estate sale today. Passed on some overpriced unmentionables of WW2 vintage. But these German made Dostra carving chisel only cost $20.

Don't you just love it when a good deal falls into your lap? Did some checking on Dastra chisels. It seems that they are of fine quality. They are listed in the range of about $30.00 each.

For $20 you probably got $600 worth (new) of chisels. They look like they're intended to be mallet driven which, unless you are pretty good, is tough to maintain fine control with (which is why I prefer smaller palm-pushed ones for fine intricate work like stock carving), but for bigger or more coarse work, (like carving a stair case bannister) I bet they'll be great.

thats a super score
ferrules look too flimsy for mallet use, but also can`t tell if the blades have a shoulder either
