whats a good way to color chamois ,will a walnut dye work? Rit berries? smoking? I want to try using for small projects

If it's actually leather and not faux chamois, then Fiebings will work, and so will walnut hulls. Not sure of the color retention though. Best to do a tiny test bit first. Rit is designed for cloth, so not sure if it might not bleed a little.

I think that Loyalist Dave is on to something with the Feibings. I just sent a text to my eldest daughter who runs Potted Fox Studios - they make leather stuff for the renFaire circuit. She knows all sorts of things about leather and its working.

Walnut dye - Yes (but doesn't take color well - I've gotten a dirty gray to light brown color)
Rit - May not work well as it is water-based.
Smoking - Yes. Different woods will give you different colors/shades of yellow to brown.
