The early English guns only used the flat sheet brass serpents. There are good photos of these in For Trade & Treaty. No doubt Comfortably Numb can do the engraving better than me, but I’d like to try it. Can always get another to send him.I would take up Comfortably numb on the engraving offer rather than getting another one. The shape and style of the plate changed over time and you want to keep it to the right era.
All I would need are the parts, not the whole gun.Get the gun finished then send it to me. Won't take me long to do. I could do the rest of the brass mounts too.
Very generous of you, I’m going to get an extra side plate so when I screw the 1st one up you can throw me a life rope and do the other. All I would need are the parts, not the whole gun.
With all do respect,,, and admiration for your determination to try it yourself,,,, given such a generous offer from @Comfortably_Numb why not have him do the one you have and give it a try on the replacement one you order? If yours comes out to your standard you will still always have the one he did as a keepsake/trophy with a cool story behind it.Very generous of you, I’m going to get an extra side plate so when I screw the 1st one up you can throw me a life rope and do the other.

I emailed Clay to find out if he makes or sources the side plates and wrist plate. I’m going to order a couple more. I’d very much like to take you up on your kind offer. All I would need are the parts, not the whole gun.
Relax my friend, don’t get fretful about the little stuff like the spring, remember you ordered a kit not a finished gun .Theres supposed to be some clean up and polishing just not as much Rob did in his build .Have fun with it and take your time and enjoy your build.waltI emailed Clay to find out if he makes or sources the side plates and wrist plate. ^^^ This is probably the kindest and most generous thing I’ve read in these forums. All I would need are the parts, not the whole gun.
I’m flattered, humbled, and surprised all at the same time. Hope it works out.^^^ This is probably the kindest and most generous thing I’ve read in these forums.
