Well I learned a bit of a lesson took the renegade to the range before going hunting this afternoon shot a couple dozen to play with and compared prb with and without a wad. Really no difference in grouping but the wad makes the ball strike higher. I may consider using a wad with my loads if shooting out to 100 yards. we will see. Anyway when done I cleaned the gun with patches and balistol , I cleaned the barrel with alcohol to dry and swabbed till dry. When I hunted I was going to shoot my gun and got nothing from 2 separate caps but pop. I put some powder under the nipple and boom. I think If I do this again I will clean the rifle with soap and water use alcohol and and fire a few caps next time. any theories I cannot recall my last failure to fire?

I bet your swabbing pushed fouling down into the flame channel. My routine now, after time at the range, is to remove the nipple after swabbing, pick it good, then run a pipe cleaner into the flame channel. If you bend the pipe cleaner just right it will even make the turn from the flame channel into the barrel when you push on it. Never had a misfire after starting with that, and I do a lot of "range" shooting in an afternoon, just waiting for dusk when I can start my snowshoe hare hunts.

probably I used a good amount of 91% alcohol and pushed it out of the nipple but I bet you are right and it made some sticky stuff that did not let powder in the channel. Or just saturated it with crud. It shot true after that and it is a mixed blessing because you get to see if you flinch.

co2 discharger will clear the channel with no noise or residue. then load as usual, then pull nipple and add a few grains of 4ffff. that first shot really matters JUST NOW. and make sure your caps fit on the nipple you have on your gun.
DON'T ASK ME HOW I KNOW.
