Would I still have to do the cleaning routine if I discharge the ball and powder this way as opposed to firing it?

I C02 discharge my loaded muzzleloader every night after the hunt is over for the day.I usually just plunge a couple of patches with a few drops of Ballistol downbore untill it's clean again.A loaded muzzleloader does leave some residue down there even without being fired.

Be aware that blowing out the ball will not necessarily get rid of all the powder. I'm guessing it gets hung in any excess lube down there, but in any case, some amount of powder is going to be left.

Not really an issue till you pop a cap the next day to clear the nipple before loading, if that's your habit or preference.

My hunting pard popped a cap the next morning in his house before heading out to hunt. Got a pretty good noise out of it along with plenty of smoke. His wife was not entertained. His dogs were not entertained. He was not enterained.

I'll bet she wasen't entertained :rotf: ....
I snap a couple of caps every morning and dry out the bore before loading again.I never had anymore than a snap from caps though.Might be the Ballistol patch takes care of the extra powder. :v

He might not have been entertained but, I am. :rotf: :rotf: :shake: Yeah I'll bet his wife wasn't entertained!!!!!!!!! I can just about imagine what she had to say about him doing that in the house!
I can hear her now! "Just what in the &*^$ did you think you were &^%$$^* doing, not to mention the dog ran and got in the bed and *&^% all over the place, if you ever do such a @#^&*&% idotic thing again. I am going to ^&**&(^%$&*) DO YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!" :hmm: :rotf: :rotf:

Did you dry fire a cap before loading? If you did I would clean. Caps will cause rust, look at the nipple area's on guns. I never dry fire my guns and can leave them loaded for a few days till I get a shot at a gr-hog. Dilly

The CO2 discharger causes condensation within the barrel. You may want to run a few patches down the barrel to be sure to remove any left-over moisture and powder residue.

Not only that, some CO2 cartridges (type used on some paintball guns) contain oil which can cause trouble if you're not aware of it.
