That’s interesting. Sounds like the WD-40 treatment worked out all right. I don’t think I’ve tried it on wood, but I’m guessing the DCM rifle stocks in 1975 were either oil finished or varnished with an oil-based varnish. The WD-40 evidently worked pretty well on them.
WD-40 has its place, and I use it pretty frequently on tools, appliances, and guns. I do prefer other treatments for long-term gun storage, but the important thing is to find out what works for you in the environment of your location. Sometimes good things are discovered by accident!
