Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
I'm with Captchee, I've got a 20 ga. & 12 ga. and I've never had a problem with either. Money well spent I say & I'd buy them again [mine didn't need alot of finishing].
My son and I just bought a couple of 20 ga. 44" colerain barrels for a winter project. Have a colerain barrel on my haines that I just finished . Am very pleased with the way it shoots. Hoping to take deer with it this season.
Can't really say at this stage . Only other than colerain is a douglas at this point. Was interested in a long hammock. Son has one in 36cal. Man it shoots a group if I had found one at friendship would have bought it.
The main thing with smoothbore barrels is that they be straight and have a consistent bore. It's hard to make one highly accurate with a round ball. That's why rifling was invented. I'd be surprised if there was a lot of difference in accuracy between smoothbore barrels from different makers. I buy based on profile and gauge and length and who can deliver what I need, then exterior finish.
The .20 Ga Colerain barrel I used on a customer's gun that I finished three weeks ago shot as well as I am capable of shooting with a smoothie and round ball. I was quite satisfied with it's performance. I can shoot well enough to occaisionally win local shoots if that really matters.... :yakyak: BJH
I would recommend a Getz,or Rice, if you want quality. Colrains are always a gamble, and the house has the odds. I have seen too many with tight spots and rough bores. I stopped buying them a few years back, and now will not use one if it was free.
