Third coat of wax is now on. I'm getting a good buff between coats and it is evening out nicely. I'm going to start mounting up some of the hardware (thimbles, butt plate, trigger guard) so they can get a little wax in the last few coats. Now I just need to get some time to clamp my barrel and finish the draw filing and polishing before my horn kit arrives!

Well, I got the butt plate, trigger guard and ramrod pipes / thimbles mounted up again tonight. I made one error....on the first one, I had forgotten to run my punch through to clear out any cured oil and wax, and to ensure the water for the dye and the wetter weather as of late hadn't reduced the size of the pin holes.

Because I forgot, the first pin needed a little extra help, and I ended up using my smaller punch when I should have use my next size up. I managed to rough up the area around the hole Thankfully, with a dye / oil / wax set-up, I was able to fix up the spot so, while I know it is there, it is almost invisible.

The patch box lid is a little tight right now too, so I think the next coats will keep it in place so I don't add anymore finish beneath it.

Overall, it's really starting to look like a finished stock.

Two flats and the muzzle have been draw filed, the stock is just about done being waxed and I now have supplies for a powder horn and (not entirely accurate but better than brass) horn roll priming flask. At this rate, I may be able to shoot this thing this summer and even start towards looking the part

The stock is super close....just need to finish waxing a couple small areas and clean up the molding lines (managed to get some wax build-up from the cured Tung oil and Renaissance wax)...I'll try toothpicks to start, but I may need to warm the end of something rounded and metal to gently run through them and knock the white build-up back.

Once I finish the last three flats of the barrel, I'll likely go over the 5 cleaned up flats (I'm only doing the visible ones) with some backed sandpaper to polish them up like I did the brass...bright, but not parade square polished. Then it'll be a couple coats of Ren wax and I'm ready for sights and final assembly.

I now also have the parts for a powderhorn as well as a horn roll and spout to make a new priming flask that won't stand out as much (I like having one, even if it isn't historically accurate....this way it can hide in the shooting bag and not be as "loud" as my former brass one when I grab it to prime). I also received a shooting bag I bought from another member here.

All told, it's starting to look like I'm an active BP shooter again.

Ok....I think the stock is done. I got what I figure is enough wax on the stock (much more and it's going to go beyond the satin finish I was hoping for) and cleaned up the various carving and molding lines from the excess oil and wax.

I figure I have 3 flats left to get draw filed, then some polishing to do before I mount the sights and re-assemble this thing into an actual flintlock rifle.

Didn't get a chance to work on the barrel this weekend, but I did get my little priming hornette / flask done.

I have options on how to carry it and it has been polished and waxed to the same satin finish as my stock.

Finally had a chance to complete the draw filing and polishing of my barrel and got the sights mounted up. A few last tweaks and it's time to do final assembly.

Well, the rear screw on the lock gave me a bit of grief again, but a little convincing got it to accept its role.... assembly complete!

Unfortunately, no. I see that Natural Resources brought in a restriction on black powder (too many folks blowing manure up, I guess), so I'll need my PAL before I go too hog wild. I have some 2F and 3F that's older (original Goex), but I wouldn't mind having some fresh around before I set the sights.

At this point, I'll likely wait (some of the local clubs don't pro-rate their memberships), get into a club fresh in the new year. Might even cone it before I go out (still exploring that option), cast a bunch more RBs and then do a fair bit of shooting to catch up.
