This is a CVA Colonial style pistol my dad bought back in the 80s but never finished. I decided to use it for a practice pistol for learning engraving, in letting, carving, and finishing. Give me your criticism or compliments, I thrive on bothe equally. thanks mike

Not sure, but it looks like it may have been acid etched.

Looks to me like a very well controlled mustard finish?
I've tried it before, but I always end up smearing the mustard on pretzels...which leads to beer...and then more beer...so on. :redface:

I can't imagine that a CVA pistol has ever been so proud. Nice work!

Well since you asked first I'll respond to you first, Mr Gray called it, it's mustard. I streaked the barrel with mustard, let it sit for a couple days and oxidize under the mustard then, once I thought it had rusted enough I used a small spray bottle filled with gun blue and sprayed it on the barrel over the dried on mustard. After about 5 minutes I washed everything off with dish soap and water, and then I oiled it. I think if I ever do it again I will let the mustard sit for a couple weeks to see if it makes a difference.
