Jest like the old mountain men did it...

They are working now! Nice project! Might do that myself if I find a Walker with a messed up barrel.

I had been wanting to do that, and then when I got an extra barrel at a good price, I got 'er dun.

I have not yet measure the velocity difference between the two barrels. I hope to do so soon.

If it is something that might bite, I would suggest an unmentionable with a very large hole in the barrel. Fun is fun, but think things over. PC or ER.
Bunk

With a properly designed bullet and energetic powder the ROA or a Dragoon can achieve lower end magnum performance and travel nose to tail creating a nice sized permanent wound track. That’s plenty for hogs and moderately size black bears. That’s about as much as I seem to be able to handle before I start flinching from fighting the recoil. Traded a short barreled ported .44 for my ROA.

I would think the Dragoon or ROA would make a better gun for that. My Ruger likes a weighed 38 grns of 3F Olde Eynsford and it looks like the bullet that will fill the void would weigh about 230 grns with a big wide meplat. That will go nose to tail through an adult hog. I’d take the weight and size savings of either of the two, and I’m contemplating cutting the barrel down to ~5.5” to make it a more user friendly sidearm.

But if you’re set on a Walker I’d look into fixing the spring latch it has. Many have fixed theirs from dropping with no need for custom work.

I have not tried this , but give it some thought it is quick easy and reversible. Everyone has what is needed , a 12 volt automotive battery and a foot or so of about 16 gauge wire . Just like magnetizing a screwdriver. A few wraps of wire around the lever and connect to battery . Viola a magnetized loading lever. It is certainly worth a try.
Please let us know what your results are if you do it. People want to know.
