Concrete in Flint

WELL it look like concrete and that what they say on the net

The foreign substance in question is indeed chalk, not concrete, as flint noduals form naturally incased in chalk.

Anything you find on the "net" is what it is, take it with a grain of salt, or sometimes with the whole shaker.

Flint rock occurs in limestone beds. Your inclusions and coatings are limestone--not concrete.

Concrete is a man made material, it is not found in nature.
Soooooo, finding it in flint is impossible.

Wrong again Clyde. Concrete is limestone with all moisture removed, cooked. When water is back in the mix it turns back to stone, just not as pretty.

Yes, cement and concrete are related. Cement is the dehydrated limestone. Concrete is the mix of rock and cement paste.

When we see concrete flat work (side walks and such) we see the cement, the limestone. Clear as mud?

Both are still man made....and neither is found inside flint or chert....My statement is accurate.

I think the Latin parentage of both words has folks confused.....

It is impossible to say what the concretion is composed of without examining it or knowing where it came from...
Saying that it is "limestone" is simplistic to the point of being incorrect. Flints and cherts are found in a wide array of sedimentary formations.

As a knapper, folks who do this refer to any contrary, rough grained material inside a piece of chert or flint as concrete. They do not imply that any cement mixing elves are messing with their rocks.
