I have an old set of sxs 12 ga. barrels, saved just in case. While lurking here, I saw mention of converting to flint by tapping, plugging, and then building a gun around them. The building of the gun part, I understand, but is installing the plugs much like a rifle, only twice. More information please.

If you are going to go this route, you need to get a copy of Recreating the Double Barrel Muzzle-Loading Shotgun by William Brockway. This is the bible when it comes to building muzzleloading shotguns. The Author walks you through the entire process. However, we are talking a lot of work.

Basically, you cut off a portion of the barrels so that the chambers are approximately 1 3/8 inches deep. You then tap the chambers with 7/8 x 14 tap. You then turn a pair of breach plugs on a lathe (the two plugs are not identical if you want to be historically accurate). You then thread, shape and fit the breach plugs to both the barrels and the tang. Nothing too it.

Even if you do not go through with the project, Brockway's book is worth reading.
