I done a search and came up empty,I was wanting to know if anyone has ever converted a rifle into a pistol? If anyone has done this what were the major challenges? How does it shoot? I would like to see some pics of finished product if possible. Thanks

Personally I have never done one. But after the civil war the good ol US of A converted some Springfields to pistols and I believe some were trap doors.

It will work OK, but the rifling twist needs to be faster in a pistol for real accuracy. It will not be comfortable for one hand shooting, and there is really little reason to bother.

Thanks Wick, I was just thinking of doing my first build so I thought I would try to convert a rifle instead of screwing up a good kit. So I ordered a stock with plans of cutting down the barrel & using the lock & trigger maybe.I'm still not sure if I will continue with this plan or just bite the bullet or round ball in this case and order a set of parts to start with. :shake:

A large bore hawken style rifle with the wedge back a ways from the underrib might be a candidate for conversion. Lop it off behind the underrib. But what kind of glue would you use for attaching the piece to make the pistol grip? Could reform an iron trigger guard but not a brass one.
Got an old hawken to whittle on?

Got a old Investarms Hawken to whittle on. I bought a pistol stock so no glue required.I think i can make everything work except the triggers, they may be a little to long. I plan to cut the barrel down to 1/2 the original length,Do you think it will be 1/2 as accurate? :rotf: :youcrazy: :shake:

Not yet Good Cheer :shake: Its been way to hot to work in my shop here in S. Fl. even with the a/c on. I did get the tang inlet but thats as far as i've got. I will get back at after the 1st of the year when i get back from a month long Holiday/hunting trip to Al.

Few ML rifles have a stock that will allow making a pistol.

60-70" twist barrels work OK for pistols though.
Made several.

They will shoot 2" or less at 25 yards and in 54 caliber with 9" will make 1200 fps or so with hunting loads.
