Over on a Turkey Forum I've noticd posts about the cost of modern high performance Turkey loads (shells) costing $6.00 each...got me thinking about what it costs for the blackpowder turkey load I use and did the math as follows:

Black powder main charge of 80grns Goex 3F = .13 cents
(@ $11.00/lb)

Black powder priming charge of 3grns Goex 4F = one half cent
(@ $11.00/lb)

Cost of Flint per shot = .01 cent
(@ .75 cents/flint)

Wads: 2 @ .06 cents = .12 cents
(@ $6.00/100)

Shot: 1+5/8oz #6 shot = .08 cents
(@ $20.00/25lb bag)

Overshot card = .01 cent
(@ $10.00/1000)

So I spent .72 cents for this turkey season's two shots...good economy

Where you really saved money was on load development and patterning. No need to buy boxes of different shells, just adjust the powder or shot charge and drive on.
