I recently picked up a 1860 44 Cal. from CVA. It's been many(30+) years since I did cap and ball. I still wonder why I bought it, but recall I use to really enjoy shooting mine weekly at Frenh Range at Ft Knox. I had to get rid of it though due to a redeployment, and have always regretted it. The price was right and I was suffering from a bad case of nostalgia. Wife said she had been waiting for me to get another one and gave me that "I told you so" look. :idunno: I dunno,,,,,,

I do remember how to load it but forgot how many grains. Could anyone refresh my memory please?

A wife's look can tell you more than all the Enterprise's sensors put together! Bev had a special one I recognized when something I did or said registered a "high" on her BS meter! :haha:
As for a M.1860, something in the 30 grain range is usually comfortable and accurate. Yours my vary a few grains one way or another. I've had two over long times. An old Replica Arms version from the 60's liked about 32 grains FFFg plus ball, all I could get in there. A much later Uberti did it's best with about 25 and 10 grains of corn meal on top of the powder. Fiddle a little bit with ball size and powder levels, you'll find what works best. My old one had the typical smaller chamber diameter of the Italian guns of the 1960's. The M.1860 is my favorite grip style, the Remington always knocks the bejeebers out of my middle finger knuckle.
