The vent looks low, if the rifle shoots well I would not worry about it.

You can use a small ball grinder bit. Grind the pan down a bit and forward a little, trying to center the touch hole a little more. When finished, polish the pan smooth. Just a thought :v

Funny how people who don't shoot flinters seem to tell others they are a huge pain in the butt and basically don't really work.

I've found mine to be very reliable and quite fun to tinker with.

norcal flintlocks are like women, once ya figure out just what the heck they want they are a dream come true n you will be hooked for life, but if ya don't give em what they want n the waythey want it they CAN be a pain in the patoot. one hint I ususally give guys is when ya load the flash pan don't shake the powder towards the barrel, if ya do you create a fuze out of the powder and it can slow down its going off quickly, its more the fire from the flash going into the touch hole that ignites the powder in the barrel, leave the pwder loose and only fill the pan with a pinch ya don't need to fill it to the brim. Most people who doxn rocklocks have never really played with them and are passing on info they have "heard" n nothing from personal experence. About all I shoot anymore are flinters n my guns go off just as quick as anything out there, its all n knowing and learning yur gun.Your gonna get frustrated at times but take a deep breath n relax enjoy. welcome to the club. YMHS Birdman ps all that manure ya hear about flinters being so slow is from hollyweird stuff made for the movies to have more effect so the movie watchers can get a thrill, nothing more.

I did work on the pan some. I did not like the way the pressure was cutting the corner of it. I put a few loads through it and it still works so thats a plus. I have tried to let a few people shoot this thing and for some reason It has worked perfect for me every time but every time I put it in someone elses hand it misfires. One of the times the pan flashed but the main charged failed to ignite. the other was I handed it to my girlfriend and the pan failed to ignite. It was hard enough to talk her into trying to shot it, after that she just said no. Oh well

You may also want to change that flint. The one in your picture looks rather blunt. I'd install a nice, sharp black english flint. If this little rifle still bothers you, I have one more idea. I'm flying back to the central valley to visit family. Out of the goodness of my heart, I will take this problem rifle off your hands at NO charge to you :rotf:
