Same thing here. Pedersoli SXS Flintlock, 20 bore and .60 PRB with leather over powder wad over the powder and over the PRB. 50 yards and in they are in trouble and not just deer but hogs too.

I have killed deer with the .62 smoothbore flinter. The first one I shot at I had a "klatch" and she ran away but then came right back. The .610 round ball dropper her where she stood. The second I shot was running by me and I hit her on the fly. She ran 50 yards and was found dead. Very effective in its range.

I’ve taken a couple of Illinois whitetail with my Jack Garner smoothbore. Twenty gauge using a .600 round ball and .015 ticking pushed by 80 grains a FFF. I’ve even chased elk with it in Colorado though unsuccessfully.

20 gauge FDC, 42" left handed flintlock. I've killed 2 doe so far, both less than 40 yards. 110gr ffg, .595 ball, .010 patch lubed with deer tallow. They both ran, but not far. Still looking for a buck.

Killed a few with a Flint smoothbore......
.595 ball, no patch, just wadding & 60 grains of fffg.....I primarily bow hunt so if you set up with the same mentality the deer will be in range......first one was a 4 point.....50 yard shot. The majority have been 25 yards or less.

It never ceases to amaze me the kinetic energy a close to 60 slug imparts......the majority of the deer dropped in their tracks.

I’m using my .62 Fowler and shot under a nice 8 pointer opening day

That’s a bummer!! Sounds like something I would do!!
I would like to join the ranks of smooth bore hunters. It may be a couple more years for me though. We’ll see how much cash I can stash away!! In the meantime I will enjoy the Kentucky rifle I built!
