A derringer makes a damn fine first handgun.
Springer you have me roaring.....but im not going there....LOL
Father in law has one of them. So far we have been able to get close to hitting a five gal bucket at three paces.
Dave those shots represent a hold on the very bottom edge of the cardboard. the aim point is massively different...

I have let non BP people shoot it and told them just shoot toward the target, who knows what you might hit.

Just a suggestion sussex, but if you decrease the powder charge to a bit less than 20 grains, you won't get as much thunder and lightning but your accuracy will probably improve quite a bit.
I appreciate your suggestion. And I will certainly give it a try. I thank you for your input. It,s a fun little piece...one that I can inlay brass and get experience in doing so. A learning curve and trying different things without worrying about buggering something more expensive. It has adjusted my analytical side as it is not milled perfect but allows me to sit back and decide on how I am going to achieve the next the next step on how I can improve whats there. I feel thats the kind of the value in this cheap kit. Something you can return to and make small improvements in look,s and at the same time have a shoot-able piece. Thank You. SM
You sure have the right attitude. Experiment, learn while doing, and have fun. That's what it's all about. I shoot my Traditions .45 derringer quite often and have get lots of enjoyment out of it. I recently bought a very fine cased pair of 40 year old nib Uberti derringers from a seller on this forum but I will never fire them b/c, like they say, you can't un ring a bell. I'm enjoying them simply as excellent examples of gun makers art and that also, for me, is enjoyable. Keep on shooting and having fun.

Derringer trail walks are kind of a new thing out west. Started about 10 years ago, usually about 8/10 hanging steel targets.Quite enjoyable, more and more rendezvous are including this fun even. Often see 4 or 5 on the same gun walking down the trail.
