Starting to collect needed tools to begin building some guns. Today I got a bench grinder like knew, and a bench vise good size and 15 wood working files and rasps, there is three rasps, several flat files and 3 or 4 triangular files. Got all for 80.00 off a old furniture maker. I thought that was not too bad.

Looks like a good start. Try to get some books/patterns etc. for the type of guns you want to build, and study up. Find a mentor to help you if you can, or ask lots of questions here, it will save you a lot of headaches. Good for you!

You could send your files and rasps to Boggs Tool and have them resharpend like new. Nothing like a sharp rasp or file for working on one's guns. Last time I used them they charged around $4 a file with first time customers getting one done for free.

Just go slow and carefully with the grinder, another time saving tool is a Dremel. Some will advise against this but it saves hours, you just have to be careful and confident with it.

For what it's worth, I agree with Buckskinn. I'd be lost without my Dremel in my knife business, but then again, you DO really need to be careful with anything that removes metal/wood under power. It's VERY easy to go overboard and remove too much. You can always take more off, but sometimes putting it back on is about impossible. Just my $0.02. Enjoy the experience.
God bless:

A dremel is a gunsmiths best friend. Used right it can do a lot of work for them. Used wrong by bubba and it makes a lot of work for them too :D
