Did Pedersoli stop production of their 62 caliber Indian trade musket?

I have heard a while back that they stopped makeing the 62 caliber indian trade musket. Is this the case? I want to get one later on but getting new parts or a new frizzen that may be worn out etc worries me.

Just get a Kibler's fowling piece. Better gun by a mile and the same or less price! MUCH, MUCH more historically correct and would be just fine for trade gun style roles. It's based on imported English trading fowlers. Also, no super annoying (and historically incorrect) patent breech to fool with. Immensely higher quality lock, much more durable internals, the list goes on.

Pedersoli is WAY too proud of their guns. The value just is not there anymore.

I second the Kibler Fowler. It's made in the USA and the things are very high quality for the money. Replacement parts are not gonna be a big deal.

The Pedersoli Indian Trade gun I had a few years ago didn't have a patent breech. It was flat as their Bess and Charleville breeches. If you are going to pay new Pedersoli prices, the Kibler is a much better deal. Sometimes though you can find the trade gun well under a $1000 if you wait. But if you are like me when the fever hits their ain't no waiting................

Pedersoli’s trade gun uses their LOTT flint lock, which has been a staple for probably close to 50 years. The lock has been available a lot longer than the gun has. Brad or Shane Emig at Cabin Creek Muzzleloading can tune it up for you so it will work better and last longer than it would otherwise.

I don’t own a Kibler rifle or gun and have never even handled one. People rave about them, and they are generally acknowledged to be top-notch. He makes a nice, authentically styled fowling piece, but it isn’t exactly a trade gun. The Pedersoli trade gun is not an accurate copy of any historic trade gun I know of, either. I think Danny Caywood is still building “correct” trade guns, and he sells them finished, unfinished, or in kit form. Caywood makes nice guns (I have one), and his locks are super.

If the Pedersoli is what you want, though, that’s what you ought to get. Several of the fellows on this forum have them and seem to like them.

Yep ... Mr. Caywood makes a beautiful trade gun ! I bought one someone had built from a kit , they did a bad job building it ...I rebuilt it and ...I was really impressed with that trade gun .... Gorgeous and good lock and barrel ! Wish I had kept it ! LOL ....

Like ... Make Caywood kits only ? No thanks ... I dont put together kits on a regular basis and I build my N.W. guns from scratch . Mr. Caywood s kit N.W. trade gun is the same price as my finished scratch built N.W. trade gun ....

For a high-volume shooter, like I have been many times, they don’t allow a good, easy cleaning job in the field, and the reduced diameter antechamber requires an additional scraper and brush to clean it out.
Removing the barrel from the stock and doing the water pump thing works well enough, if you are where you can do it, but some guns are not made to be disassembled for cleaning. The reduced chamber is hard to dry out thoroughly after cleaning, unlike barrels with the simpler flat breech plug.
