I was just reading a post on a CVA derringer and it jarred my memory of one I have and always forget that I have it. Haven't shot this in years, but maybe its time to do that soon. I bought this .32 from DGW in 80'-81'. Don't remember what I paid for it, but it wouldn't have been much.

Look up Liegi-style muff pistols that were proofed in Liege, Belgium, where they started proofing before 1700.
Lots of varieties from there, and yours might match one of the originals.
Mine does. I bought an original Liege-proofed screw barrel pistol, and then found the replica.
If someone went to the trouble to make an old derringer, I bet they based it on something historic.
Good luck on your search!

Well, I did say its been years since I shot it, I should have said Many years. I took it back out of the book and with my reading glasses on turns out its a .41! Its an Italian Palmetto called the "Abilene". Now I did used to shoot this, but I'll be darned if I remember having the 40 balls for it.

I bought one just like yours (DGW "Mississippi River Law") many years back. I never fired it and probably never will, just thought it was real neat. Turner had quite a collection of Southern derringers and wrote at least one book on them.
I've never read his book, but you are right, they have a tremendous derringer collection there!

Two of us tried to order those back in the late 60's - early 70's but were never successful. Glad to see guys that were able to get them. Always wondered what shooting one would be like. Thanks for posting this.

Now that its cooling off I'll start shooting again. I'll get the little derringer out too. Did some research this evening and it seems .380's is what it takes, which I have. But I swear I shot .32's out of it at one time. I'll try the .380's and post what happens when I do.

I have one very simular that is marked on barrel, DIXIE GUN WORKS, TURNER KIRKLAND. wonder how many of them are out there? and when it was made?

I had one! Same! Sold off at a show many years ago. Not sorry, would like to have Pedersoli Deringer.

Ten grains would be fine. Not much grip to hang on to!
Thanks, I've been trying to remember when I shot it last. Probably 35 years ago. I actually found an old forum thread discussing this derringer. It was agreed the .380 was the best size for it but charge amount wasn't discussed. I think 10gr is reasonable and probably what I used way back when.

Back in the late 1980's I remember this gun selling for about $80 new. I considered getting one, but I never did. Instead, I went with a Philadelphia Derringer.

I bought mine from a friend’s pawn shop in ‘81 or so for $30. Came in a tiny presentation case about the size of a paperback. Neat little turned wooden container with balls and patches. Marked RICHLAND ARMS CO., code dates it to 1979.View attachment 164757
at 44, CAL. it would be a handful, hang on! it is a beauty, you just gotta love em!
