Went to the first rendezvous I attended in years this last weekend. Had a blast. Had one glitch. Went to a blanket shoot with my new NWG. I built it with out a touch hole liner. I only shot it one session and it shot well sans liner. Now when I shot it over and over I had klatch or a flash in the pan. So I decided it was liner time, I explained the klatchs to old dull flint and humid weather.
When I got home I reilzed something. I had bought pyrodex years ago and used it in my last percussion gun. My percussion gun has my best looking horn and bag, so I swapped out with my fusil bag.... not changing powder. I was shooting my flinter with pryrodex!
Remember one bag one gun (And avoid pryrodex if you can)

My problem with one bag one gun is I would have to keep 27 bags. :nono: My solution to the powder problem is to have a different horn/flask for each powder and have them marked which is which...oh and I don't have any subs in the bunch.

I think you have the KEY there. Sticking with black powder is my solution. Worst case I have 2F instead of 3F. It is mind blowing how many ways we have to screw up when having several guns!

I have evolved to using only one kind of powder for the guns I shoot. That is currently my last can of Goex 3Fg. From there I'll dip into my supply of Schutezen 3Fg, when that is gone I'll start using my Swiss 3Fg supply. So, for me, one powder, all guns.

I must admit, I have never shot pyrodex, or any other aftificial black powder. I think I have enough various granulations of Goex to last me for this lifetime.

I have done sort of the same thing. I have only one horn and will change powder to fit the individual gun. I use 2F in my shotguns and 3F in my rifles. I have forgot to change out powder before but it really didn't make that big a deal since it was all blackpowder. You'd think after awhile we wouldn't make these mistakes again. Oh well, I am fully capable of messing things up from time to time.

I use Pyrodex P and RS for some revolver and caplock applications and it works just fine. I also have 3F black powder. The key is to clearly mark your horns and flasks so you're aware of what's in them. I've never brought the wrong powder for any rifle or pistol I'm shooting, and I always have my stuff set out the night before the range trip, so I'm not just hastily grabbing stuff on the way out the door.

A friend (?) gave me a full can of that stuff a while back. This spring I took it out to the driveway and poured it out in a long string and lit a strike anywhere match on the end of the line. You Know,,,, it went off pretty good that way.

:haha: I imagine it did at that!! Bet it was cool to watch too!

BUT.. since I use Pyrodex almost exclusively, I imagine Im not going to waste it that way.. (Thats alright I gots lots of modern stuff thats unlabled to burn..)

I once drove over a hundred miles to a rondy only to find out I forgot my rifle  I had every thing I needed to shoot the darn thing though. :haha:

A friend of mine drive a snow machine in 40 below zero weather for 30-40 miles in interior Alaska on a winter moose hunt only to find his lock was missing out of his rifle when he got in and was setting up camp. He had removed it for cleaned and lubing and forgot to put it back together. Mike D.

Now THAT sounds like a darned good excuse to come home with a new rifle!! (No, my wife wouldn't buy it either)

I have ten pounds of black powder and when it is gone I am going to buy 25 pounds more.

Where was the Rendezvous? I am in NW Arkansas and want to go to the next one.

My step dad use to be with the Missouri Fur Company but I don't think they are around anymore. Where is the next one at?

It was at Leslie Arkansas about 30 miles south of Harrison on hiway 65. The next one is 28 nov-2 dec in petit jean.
And yes to all you folks I have only ever shot black except for an emergence purchase that I am still trying to get rid of :idunno:

Do searches for South West Regional Rendezvous and Early Arkansas Reenactors Association. Lot of the same good people in each but different activities.

Adui.
A buddy let me use his for the price of cleaning it. If I would have had the cash I probably woulda' come home with one.
