I got a Delta DP200 10" 1/4hp Shopmaster Bench Top Drill Press. The chuck is gone..binds up and I have to use vise grips to put bit in...2yrs. old. Anyway I'm trying to find a replacement..before my gun parts get here and don't know what I'm doing. The chuck is 1/2" and has JT 33 stamped on it. I'm thinking that means this press needs a 33 Jacob's tapper chuck to fit. The arbor opening measures 5/8". I've looked at a 100 chucks on-line and haven't seen one that looks like it. Does anybody know a good place on web to find a chuck that will work for this press?
Thanks for any info.

Hoyt:

You can call up Enco (1-800-3626) or Travers Tool (1-800-221-0270) and tell them what you want and they should be able to help.

Hope this helps
Olie

there are several to look at online and contact. There is J&L tool, travers tool, enco. All have great customer service and will be able to answer your questions and find the right chuck for your needs. By the way, I have seen chucks that do this from over tightening. It springs the jaws and causes the insides to deform from to much pressure. Happens easly with low end chucks.

You might be looking in all the wrong places. Jacobs is the chuck, most American spindle tapers are Morse, OTOH, Chinese and other Asian countries utilize the Jacquard taper mount, hence the JT33. See links below.

I was just looking at some of the Enco chucks and they have economy chucks for about $13.00 and precision chucks for about $25.00 (in the type I think I need}. Would the precision chuck take any wobble out of drill bit on this fairly cheap Delta Press, or does the wobble come from the arbor. There isn't real noticeable wobble with press..just trying to find out if better chuck would eliminate wobble.

The 13.00 chuck should take out alot of your run out. The 25.00 chuck will run a little better because the chuck jaws are ground but we are talking about maybe .003 run out diference.

Tanstaafl...Thanks..I think I found it in the Chinese department..San Ou Chuck. Style B is the chuck..but I can't find it in the same dimensions. My chuck says JT-33 on it and measures "D"- 45mm, "L"-70+mm, "L1"-64mm. I guess as long as it's real close and the same taper type it will work. Closet I find is Jaquard taper mount, art.286400. It's a 5/8" instead of 1/2" and a hair bigger chuck, but should work..I guess.

Okie...if I ever find the one..I'm going to upgrade just a hair.

Goodmorning Hoyt
If you check with Grizzly .com they carry a "0 to 1/2" chuck " with a jt33 to match yours for about $10.00, they also have a 5/8" but will not hold small drill bits.
I work for Busy Bee Tools in Canada, a sister company of Grizzly Tools. Good value for the money.
They also have a keyless chuck for a little more money, which is also good and handy for the type of drill press that you have.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards. Old Ford

Thanks for all the help..I got one ordered yesterday...and some drill bits..man you can save money on drill bits ordering them like that. 30cents vs over a dollar at Ace, etc.
