Euroarms 1858 blowback from caps

Hello,

I just took my Euroarms 1858 replica to the range for the first time today. It was fun but I had a lot of blowback from the percussion caps. I’m using 1075’s but not hot shot nipples. I bought the gun on this form, and I think the nipples are original to it. Is there anyway to reduce the blow back?

Stronger hammer spring help. TOWs stainless nips have worked as well as the sideways hole type nips and last longer without cracking those thin walls...c

Hmmm. After rereading my post, I should have said that each time I fire, the revolver I get hit in the face by Sparks. Not really blow back as the hammer stays down on the nipple. Sorry for my poor description. But was thinking the hot shot nipple with a hole in it may help.

The hot shot nipples may be too long. Revolver nipples generally have shorter cones than rifles which can benefit from a hot shot nipple. The nipples that @OldSmoky1967 has may have a flash hole that is too large. It might be time to replace the original nipples with Slix Shot nipples or nipples from Track of the Wolf.

If you are using 1075 Plus caps the sparks are likely caused by the excessive amount of priming compound in the cap, way more than needed to ignite the small powder charges used in a revolver.

After decades and many thousands of rounds fired using both nipple types I have found only more breakage issues with the hot shot style. The thin walls of the hot shot types have cracked and have had to break the petal like piece off just to get a cap on that chamber. Not a great thing to happen in the middle of a National championship match..c ..

What is the gap between the cylinder and barrel? I have a 58 Rem that spit a lot and some of it came at me, My cylinder gap was .016. That is until I set the barrel back and now it's like .004. The nips and hammer had nothing to do with that. Some of the flame goes up and is directed back to you when it hits the top strap.

I when to buy a stiffer main spring, but I bought a kit with a lighter one in it :-(

I piggy backed the light one behind. Sure snaps shut fast, and zero bounce.

1075 are equivalent to #11 caps. Most revolvers use #10 caps. So your caps may be slightly oversized for the nipples thus allowing the spray. If all you have or can get is the 1075, you should try to switch out the nipples for a #11 cap.
