Anyone planning to hunt any exotic game this upcoming season?

Pronghorn?
Buffalo?
Musk ox?
Elk?

What does 2004-05 hold for you?

We have pronghorn ( not to hard to draw a tag) buffalo( once in a lifetime tag) and more Elk than you can shake a stick at right here, not very exotic. We have more Elk than deer. We have to draw a tag for a deer but elk tags are availabe over the counter. I'll be hunting Elk and Deer for sure. Musk ox, have hunted them about 50 yrs. ago when I spent a couple of yrs in the N.W.T. about as exciting as going out in a field and shooting a Jersey cow. Do know one guy who was gored by one, he got pretty excited about it. ::

Nothing exotic, but plans here in North Carolina are:

One more Saturday to try a .62cal flint smoothbore Turkey;
Want to try smoothbore crows in July/August;
Smoothbore Doves in September;
Flintlock rifle Squirrels in October;
Flintlock rifle Deer in November / December;

Not having hunted squirrels in 4 years and getting to in about 4 weeks has me pretty excited! Hopefully with a "new to me" 36 flint! That's probably as exotic as it's going to get for Vic this year.

Sure wish we had some sort of hunting season open like that early in the year...execpt for turkeys, all our small & large game hunting is at the same time in the fall.
Hey, maybe you offer "guided squirrel hunts"...package deal for $10,000/week :haha: :haha: :haha:

roundball...ya reckon I'd get any takers? Where do you suppose I should advertise? I'd sure like to give it a try! You wanna be my first "client". As a gesture of good will I'll offer you a three day, guided hunt free of charge! Food, lodging and hunting, you purchase your permits. All ya gotta do is show up May 28th, it opens the 29th and we'll hit it early in the morning! Fresh, young gray squirrel, taters & gravy, corn on the cob and fried okra fer supper!!! oh...ya gotta bring your own insect repellant....

Vic

plan to use my .62 smoothbore for doves, quail, ducks, geese, deer, and elk if i get drawn for an elk tag. Maybe a few rabbits too, and possibly pheasant.

The closest I'll get to exotic is my Wild Hog hunt at the end of May. Exotic not really, non-native, I'll give them that. Either way a whole lotta' fun. :D

Hi Musketman;

I live in Pennsylvania and next year I plan to hunt a very exotic animal, the common Whitetail Deer! With the volume the Pennsylvania Game Commission has been issuing the antlerless deer tags the last couple of years, shucks they're almost past exotic to the point of being "extinct"!

On a serious note, our local mountains are said to be fairly crawling with coyotes. I think I'll try to find someone to teach me how to use the squealing rabbit "predator" calls and spend a few days trying for a coyote.

Regards to all,

Ironsights-Jerry.

I've mentioned this before but I'm going to South Africa in the first two weeks of July to hunt Wilderbeest, Red Hartbeest, Impala, Gemsbock, Warthog and Bleesbok with muzzleloaders. Pretty exotic for a country bumpkin like me.

Yee Hah! PLEASE be sure to report back on your return. That certainly sounds like the adventure of a lifetime.

Never even heard of a Bleesbok?? Someday before I move on to Happier Hunting Grounds I'd like to get into an elk and a sika deer (introduced species in Maryland). God was nice enough to plunk me down where whitetail thrive, and that ain't too bad 'tall.

Hope it turns out to be all you hope for and more. You lucky pup!

Here is what a Bleesbok looks like, I see some wild powder horns there... :winking: :haha:

Of course the fly in the ointment and the scary part of all of this is whether I can can get close enough to any of these to even hit them. I pretty much pass on any shot attempt beyond 120 yards... 80 yards is better...50 better yet. I will pass on my experiences but it is going to be quite a challenge. Until then it is practice, practice, practice. It would be a lot easier if I just packed up my Ruger #1 but muzzleloader only is the deal so I'm going with a couple of them. It sure ain't going to be like hunting whitetails.

I can almost hear the rebuttle now, but you could get one of them thar new fangled in-line plastic shootin do-hickeys that will shoot 1/2 inch groups at 10,000 yards...

Nay, what fun would that be...

Speaking of fun, carefull of the muzzle and side blast (flint locks) when hunting in the dry grass lands of Africa, imagine all the fun you'll have being exported for setting the African Serengeti ablaze with your smokepole...

Which Impala will you be shooting? :winking: :haha: :haha:
Both have curved horns...

I imagine. That's probably why our fore-fathers wiped out the big cats hereabouts. The deer were too skittery with pumas, catamounts and mountain lions* stalking about. I bet if I were a vegetarian where lions, leopards cheetahs and a gozillion poachers with AK-47's had a bead on me I'd be a mite skittery myself.

* all the same critter - the Nittny Lion is a localized mutation in PA 'cause them idiot edjukated types put five forward toes on the 'paw prints' they stick on their cars. They should spend some time outdoors as well as at university, or at least own a cat or a dog as a pet. Don''t know a dew toe from a shoe horn. ::

I'm going mosquito hunting in Alaska this summer :D Actually it is a fishing trip but I'll bring my frontstuffer for protection from the flying menaces.
I'll be doing some bear hunting on the side also.
