Well Its time to clear some of the summer garden and start a few fall items. I am interested to see how the potatoes did, my 1st ever try at growing them.

What do you plant in your fall garden??

So far I have some broccoli, crooked necked squash and some cucumbers. I'll probably leave it at that as the squash and cucumbers will take over a lot of ground.

Frost is knocking on the door for me....but I still have things producing....
Been turning some compost and beginning to clear of the gardens....
I have some barley planted as a cover crop/ green manure and to feed my rabbits...
Getting ready to plant garlic....I need to harvest some horseradish yet....
Had about 200 lbs of potatoes this year....so I won't starve.. :haha:

Making some new raised beds this year....

First frost got me last night. Some stuff left, like potatoes, cabbage, Kale, onions. Not long to go now though. Oh well----- next spring!!!!!

Things were too upside down this year. No garden. But we had volunteer tomatoes and volunteer butter nut squash. Last year we stored away about 200 lbs of butternut squash and did not have enough.

I'll be transplanting my Squash and Cucumbers in a couple of days. I also plan on building another above the ground garden this weekend (6x12)for next spring. My soil is real sandy down here so I build a 6x12 box with 1x12's and dig out a good foot or so of soil and then fill it with a mixture of top soil,Garden soil, and a couple of bags of manure. I turn this mixture a bunch of times over the winter so when spring comes I have a dark and rich soil that's ready to grow a garden in.

I use to put several inches of manure on top the garden and then rototill that in to the soil in November. After fifteen years the garden ended up being a foot higher than the surrounding yard.
