Roundball....Range Report using your method.
I fired somewhere in the neighborhood of 140 shots yesterday. An all day job, to be sure. I was still cleaning guns at 9pm last night, and that's past me bed time!
Using your method, I managed no fewer than 8 shots between cleanings. One particular string was 19 (in a .54 cal.)before curosity got the best of me, and I cleaned just to see what was happening.
I have to say, in all fairness...Your method works better than anything I've ever tried up to this point! Peroid!
I think the next time I'm out I will try for a "string", just to see how far this method will go before I can no longer get a ball down the barrel.
I have to admit I am one who has stayed with homemade lubes because I felt they were superior to the factory "Natural lubes" that received a lot of press several years back. At the same time I was also hearing from others that I was headed for some unimagineable disaster by putting this stuff down the bore of my rifles. Apparently I choose the wrong people to listen to.
I have used NL1000 in the past to lube patches with, by rubbing the patch and lube between my fingers....it worked okay. However, It still required frequent cleanings.
I'm quite sure I do not understand the science behind this, but it appears that using your "system" of a pre bore treatment, and perhaps the wad, permits much longer strings of shots than just a dry patch to remove the oil, then loading the normal PRB.
I only used about 30+ Ox-Yoke wads in the .54, the rest were simple PRB's.
Thanks for a good tip! I need to work on this a bit, I'm sure. And even more important, I also need to re-think the whole mess again. I've often heard it's the journey, not the destination, that counts most in life. Perhaps that's how it should be.
