4 dowels about 4" tall in a row into a board lined up so you only see one dowel. Object is to cut all 4 dowels; 1 point for each dowel cut.Soda pop bottles filled with colored water hanging on a string, lima bean on a toothpick, cut the head off a matchstick,Heres one they did at the bean shoot one year that was neat.Put some numbered golf balls on a tee about 15 yards out, a shooter picks a ball and shoots it and the ball that goes the farthest wins

go down to a local horse farm and gather up a sack of roadapples,Hung on string at 25 yrd. Shoot the S*@#T ! I like shoot through targets too...Mark

Here's some that I made for our fish and game club pistol range. I use for .45 ACP and they work fairly well. You will need a donut spare, truck axle, and a tube to slip over the axle, cut at a 45* angle. They are self centering and the deflection angle focuses spatter downward. Could be made smaller and lighter for ML.

i like that, gotta learn how to weld

my favorite,- do the annie O shot. place an old full length mirror against a tree and shoot at large "12x12 or 24x24" gongs at about 20 yards facing the other way using the mirror to look down your sights. i haven't done it with a muzzleloader, but i can hit just about every time with my ruger 10/22. the shot is actually a lot easier than you would think, it is still just a matter of lining up the sights and getting used to working backwards with your reflection. it is a real crowd pleaser too (part of the reason for the larger gongs) people will talk about making that shot for a long long time.

Thats why at my shoots I give fair warning to DIAL YER GUN IN!!! :rotf:
ha! 1/2 the ones i get a my shoot would pick up their cell phone if i said that! :shocked2: RC

Back in the 70's, I won a match shooting at cans of beer hanging from strings. Impressive effect when they get hit. Only bad thing was, I won a half gallon of wine. Not good when you're only 17. Nowadays, cans of soda may be more acceptable with the same effect. Bill

yep, briquettes works great and a real challenge. Get some frustrated faces when we shoot at them at 50m.

We used to have offhand egg shoots, the eggs were suspended from a string. You had three shots to hit your egg at 25 yards, if you missed all three, you had to eat the raw egg. Had a tendency to make the squeamish concentrate a bit.

tans, i tried that eat the egg thing, most of the shooters called "fowl!" :shake:  sorry.....it's TRUE but still sad! RC

Sounds absolutely EGGSCITING! Wonder if I could use duck eggs, my League would just go quackers over this style shoot :rotf: :surrender: .

Good idea Tans  . I'll suggest it at the League shoot on Sunday! All the best, Dave

I wanted to do that one year, but SOME people were skeered of contracting some uncooked poultry disease! "Whatsa matter, don't you wanna have fun no more?!" :rotf:

How about if you miss the egg you must complete the next shoot with the egg taped to the palm of the strong hand. A 'wound' so to speak. If you break the egg loading and shooting you lose the points for that round.

Thumbtacks on a board at 20 ft, someone mentioned shooting at the bit of an axe, but a wedge of steel stays in place better, if its mounted securly, and clay birds, balloons, or anything that will shatter, break, or explode placed on either side of the axe will draw a big crowd of spectators.

The only downside is that someone has to replace the "targets" after every shot.

I remember the old days when many rendezvous used to shoot two charcoal briquettes. The shooter had the option of shooting a third briquette or an egg. The egg was worth twenty points, vs ten for a charcoal...if it was hit. A miss deducted twenty points unles the shooter ate a raw egg kept in a cooler.

The threat of eating a raw egg was sufficient to force me to concentrate extra hard. Fortunately, I hit every egg I shot at. :shocked2:

Another option is to make three different sizes of otherwise identical metal gongs placed at the same distance but separated by several feet. The smaller gongs appear to be placed at longer ranges and are difficult to hit. Most folks shoot over them.

Suspend each gong from a slightly different height to complete the optical illusion.

Like the egg shoot, I pushed for a jalapeno shoot. Miss hitting the jalapeno, you would have to eat it! Needless to say, the sensative Gringos shyed away from this match. Eventually, we shot at jalapenos but those who missed didn't have to "suffer the consequences" of their miss-take!

I enjoyed the shooting. 3-D target fabricated on the spot! Next time have an earlier date on your event.

ARILAR

Suspended charcoal briquettes are one of my favorites, as are sandwich bags partially filled with flour--nice white cloud results from hit. Also hang electrical box knockouts ("coins")--They disappear when hit and any wind will get them moving for added challenge.

You can also use turkey wing feathers and playing cards both of which must be cut in half for a hit.

Wow! A HUGE thanks to all those that posted- gives me plenty of ideas to try. Keep 'em coming!
