Question for the crew here...

In a typical shotload, with equal weights or volumes of powder and shot, how will Fg compare to FFg and FFFg, velocity-wise?

I realize that gap may narrow when shot from longer barrels versus shorter ones, etc.

Just asking generically.

I read that AZ' is testing some Fg. This reminded me that my gobbler was killed with Fg last Spring (a first for me). These spurred me into asking the above.

Best regards, Skychief.

I'm not gonna say to much on this except the course powder I have is that slow I'd be better off with my daisy red rider!
I've had angry squirrels throw acorns back at me harder!

I wish AZ all the luck in the world but I'll stick to 3f and finer thanks.
I likes a good loud bang and some recognition to my shoulder.
Never shot a tuna can. We have a can opener if there is no ring pull. 😊👍

Fg is about 100 - 150 FPS slower in my loads across chronograph. That is switching powder alone but using same volume. I stick with 2Fg and 3Fg for my 20 gauge's. I am using Olde Eynsford and Swiss which are hotter powders. Shooting flying targets is a big difference with 3Fg compared to 1Fg. 2Fg I use for squirrels and rabbits which are stationary targets. Best of shooting to you sir.

Tuna can test is to assure killing power. If the shot penetrates yer good to go. If not I may try 2f (last time out I had only 3f). 1F was certainly different in recoil both degree and type. I am more concerned with pattern. I recall Brownbear (RIP) used to swear by it in his shotguns up in AK and always wanted to try it. IT WORKS (in this gun anyway LOL)

Correct tenngun, what I found was lighter 50-70 grn loads of 1f , 2f & 3f powder all shot good with 110 grns shot measure of # 6 lead shot worked well out of my 16 gauge ... loaded in the Skychief fashion of course.

No , but I’ve killed some tuna cans at 25 yards!

I averaged 5-8 shot per can...70 - 90 ish shot in a sheet of printer paper.
That’s about the best I’ve got from my gun..

I haven’t tried it with shot since regulating the barrels point of aim..

But it should be better ! Hopefully....

Electric or hand opener?

Harrumph! 🧐 No self-respecting connoisseur of canned tuna opens his or her tab-less cans with an electric opener. That's positively uncivilized! Besides, everyone knows the EMF from the electric motor alters both the bouquet and flavor of said fish in subtle but perceptible and distasteful ways. 😆

The courser powders burn slower. As the powder gets finer and finer, there is increased surface area, so the powder burns faster, building pressure quicker.

Comparing equal volumes of powder, and excluding 4f powder, your highest pressures and velocities will be with 3f.

Your next highest pressures and velocities will be with 2f and 1f will produce the lowest pressures and velocities.

There is 437.5 grains in one ounce.
'7000/16=437.5

110/437.5=0.2514285714285714

Barely 1/4 ounce of shot. Unless y'all are talking volumetric powder measurement applied to shot.
