I'd like to use the 20grain target loads mentioned in Sam Fadala's book for my Uberti 1851 (.36 cal) and Interarms Rogers & Spencer (.44 cal). I use wads over the powder (round ball) but even with that, the ball can not be seated firm onto the load with the R & S, and the ball is far back in the 1851 (large jump into the barrel.

What kind of filler are you using and what instrument to fill in the filler would be appropriate?

You can double up the wads to get the ball flush with the chamber mouth. I use filler also. Corn meal or Cream of Wheat. Grits work fine too. I have a pistol powder flask that I ground the spout to throw the right amount to top off my 25 grain loads. I also made a little scooper from cane so that I can scoop straight from the can I keep the filler in. Wads seem to be a bit more consistant but filler is easier and keeps bore fouling down a little better.

I have a friend who works in a pecan processing facility. He gets ground pecan hulls in big bags and uses that as filler. It works great too. I think just about any lightweight plant based matter would probably work just fine.

heres what i do and been doing same fo n-ssa compition, load 15 grains 3fg then take a lee powder scoop and fill the hole up with cornmeal and fill the other four the same,(only use five cylinders, safty considerstion, rules) then load a ball over the Cornmeal and seat bullet,it always seats bullet just below cylinder, then lube over cylinders with crysco, borebutter, mcm lube, thisload is very accurate out of a 36 cal whitny revolver, same load used in 1858 rem revolver 44.kjg
