Beautiful! How hard was it to do the tang bolt? Did you have to drill and tap it? Are instructions included with the kit that cover this?

Thanks again for all the comments.

Still haven't had a chance to get out and shoot, to much work and not enough daylight. :winking:

rusty flint,
The tang bolt needed to be drilled and tapped, had to install the breech plug, dovetailed the rear barrel lug, and soldered the 2 front barrel lugs as well as the turtle front sight. I use the following books for reference. The Gunsmith of Grenville County, Recreating the American Longrifle, and The Modern Kentucky rifle.

Here's a pic of the tang bolt threaded from the bottom up into the tang. :)

Yes, the lock needed to be drilled and tapped. All holes in the stock, buttplate, and trigger guard need to be drilled. I also hand forged the trigger guard on this one from a piece of 1/8 by 3/4 flatstock and filed the bow thinner. :winking:

How much work was required to get the cast brass lock plate into such a pretty state?

Wasn't to bad! Took about 15 minutes of filing, sanding, and rubbing with OOOO steel wool.

This one was sand cast, the wax cast ones are not quite as rough and are a little easier to work.

Wax cast are a little more money though.

Taking a day off work wont Kill you :applause:
