Well, see now I personally don't care for that look. It look's refinished to me.

I have custom flinlocks, plains rifles,custom Hawken rifles, and 8 TC's. I want a custom rifle with an oil finish and I want a TC to look like a TC Factory finish, not a varnished kit gun. That's just me. I can not duplicate a factory finish with varnish.

If a gun looks refinished, I probably don't want it.

I don't mean any disrespect. I like, what I like, and you like what you like.

It is a 21XX serialed Hawken. I assume it's an oil based stain but was stained in turn by Hoppe's #9 spilled on it.

I would say with such a low number it's an old build. No evidence to go on of course.

I don't think water-based stains have been on the market very long but I don't know. Just a guess.

Always good to know what you like and what you don't.
But just for clarification's sake, the rifle is finished with tung oil. The “corner cutted” printer stand is polyurethane with a coat of light brown stain beneath it.

Yes I figured it was an older Hawken, because serial numbers are frequently mentioned, when refering to TC's. If it doesn't have a K in front of the serial number, then it should have been finished by the factory. However, considering the age, it may have been refinished somewhere along the way.

In fact, if I were to guess, the TC's are one of the most discussed firearms on this forum.

It's a kit gun.

I might even get the barrel reblued after the rifling is recut.
