I've seen at least one, maybe a couple of your double guns, Mike, and they were awesomely beautiful and made to perfection!
I have one that my friend David Dodds made for me a couple of years ago. Mine is duplicated from an original made in New York in 1810ish. David has this original,so he had it laid out in front when he made mine. The barrels were made by a fellow-I forgot his name-who lived up in Michigan or in that area. He used to advertize in Muzzle Blasts, but I haven't seen his ad in some time now. The original barrels are 20ga,full turkey choke on the left and modified choke on the right. This set is fine for turkey hunting, but way too heavy and choked for wing shooting. (20ga barrels that could be bored out to 12ga and be about right I think). I had Ed Rayle make me a set of 16ga barrels a few months ago. The left barrel is cyl bore, and the right is choked ten thousandts.I think this has been tossed around before, but if not, I like the second shot to be from the right barrel since it's easier to back the hammer on the right side than the left.
I need to start using this piece more often. It's a lot of fun to shoot. Tried .65cal round balls out of it a week or so ago just to see where these would hit at 50 yards. A little low,but I could kill a deer or hog with it for sure! The problem with owning too many firearms is that you never seem get experienced enough to reach the magic spot with any one of them! Think I'll sell my Jacob Dickert rifle and Finot fowler and settle back with just two or three different pieces......the double will surely be one of them:haha:
