Need help, sometimes the cock falls and I gets sparks. Other time the flint gets stuck half way on the hammer face.
Do I need new spring?
Pull the lock 1st /clean /lube reinstall not over tightening lock bolt ,make sure moving parts are not making contact with wood anywhere . You did not mention lock maker (quality or other ) but imports could be using a cheaper part than a name maker (custom supplier) ,but yup you might need another spring if available/or lock /Ed

More info needed. What kind of lock? Did it use to work and just start doing this? Does the frizzen open easily if you move it by hand?

Sorry, it is a Chambers English Gentleman Sporting rifle. It was made for me by a gentleman recommended by them. I forgot the name. It seems to start doing these randomly even after being clean and with no powder in the pan.

Also try the lock out of the rifle, it may be binding on the stock.

I agree the first place I’d look is the flint too long? If it’s hitting more than 2/3 up frizzen it needs shortening or changing the bevel by turning the flint over.

If nothing else works call Jim Chambers. Great guy and one way or another he will put the lock in shape.

Dear Nemo Yes a new spring would seem to be a good idea or the 'Hammer' in this case what most call a frizzen might be awfully soft and need re heat treating.

anyone else seeing **** for the word meaning rooster? you know"****"
Dear Deer stalker .Yes it seems we all are beng bothered by the xxxx nonsense . There is a name for the cylindrical slip that holds a rounded sharpening stone its called a . Well begins with C & ends with T but its a correct term if not much used in its proper context but MUCH used in a vulgar context on building sites and other similar places . However I may be ruffling someone's feathers so Ile desist .

Had mine always go off but the frizzen didn't open fully. Took the frizzen off and fully cleaned and lubed the screw and hole, and it worked as it should again.

guess i didn't stay away long enough for that nonsense to be fixed. I would venture if someone typed the rooster word with........ naw won't go there. see you guys later.

It's the new auto-censor database that @Meriwether loaded, which I think has a dirty mind, and needs some judicious editing to be more appropriate for this forum.

I wonder if you simply wrote, "The Kock on my lock stops on my Frizzen, which only partially opens" if that would work?
