Flinter Suggestions?

I would avoid sitting fox...I was going to purchase one of his guns. However He does not build them, he contracts them out to others...and the quality of gun you get varies widely depending who built it. I would reccomend MIKE LANG...he can build you a basic, functional dependable flintlock for A VERY reasonable price. The majority of his rifle only cost around 500-700 dollars.....He does use used/ reconditioned parts....but they are only in the best of used condition...no pitting or other stuff...He is currently building me a full custom smoothbore....but if you dont wanna go factory made...but dont want to spend 1500 $...hes a great option

I don't believe the Pedersoli Frontier-types are easy to find in less than .45 (then .50 and .54). They can be had in deluxe models by special order and is the direction I'd go too. That said, generally I'd prefer a shorter rifle for the smaller caliber.

As a matter of fact Mike Lange is building a PA flinter .40 for me right now. He said it would be finished this week, I could post up some pics if you would like.

I'm with Bryon. Mike is not only an excellent builder with more than reasonable pricing for his guns; but he is also one truly honest, upstanding man. He builds rather plain (but will use P++ wood if asked), working guns that are accurate and reliable. You can also get the lock/barrel of your choice if you prefer that rather than what he happens to have in stock. It will increase the price a bit, however.

Here is my Mike Lange .45 "Rugrat" rifle. It's a kid's rifle (a specialty of his) but fits me perfectly. It's about the cutest thing I've ever seen that shoots.

thats a right nice looking rifle....its funny . Mike and I worked out a trade...I had a set of parts that used to be a traditions kentucky rifle of mine ...so I traded him the parts for a nicer stock. I ahve yet to see any pictures but He says its about a P+++ or maybe a bit better...he actually went through a couple of stocks blanks in the build....had a router bit break and chewed up the stock lol...But I cant complain. with everything Im gonna have a full custom .58 smooth rifle and im only in it for about $900.00. The same rifle someplace else would easily cost 1500 or more

Actually, part of my trade with Mike was some rifle parts; otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get the rifle. I saw it on one of his posts and knew I had to have it.

A quick correction about Mike's work. While he uses reconditioned/used parts to build his ready-made rifles that he lists on places like Gun Broker, his custom made guns are constructed using only new parts. He will however, work with anyone to try and come up with something affordable and with the consent of the buyer to use reconditioned/used parts though. He also always lists the condition of the bore when selling his ready made and/or Rugrat rifles. He's made me two rifles and I'm quite pleased with them both.

Cost about 900. Don't know how it shoots yet, waiting for the weather to warm some, temps haven't been much above 20 degrees here since November. Too cold for me to be dialing it in.
