Anyone in here ever built a flintlock underhammer rifle? I was intrigued by the mechanics of operation of the underhammer flintlock mechanism [ LINK ] shown on Ethan Yazel's recent blog*.

Is flash burn an issue on the wrist of the arm when shooting offhand, necessitating an archery-like arm guard? I understand the touch hole is pointed downward, but the ball of flame from pan ignition is not insignificant. I wondered how the pan charge is kept together, then noticed the pan-like indention in the frizzen pan cover to hold the charge when the rifle is flipped upright: LINK

Pictures and links of similar firearms?

I guess it would work fine. I just wouldn’t shoot it the old shooting position of laying on your back with the rifle resting on your feet!
