Mark...any luck in getting your money back yet?

I sent him an email asking him to refund my money and never received a response. After 10 days I filed a dispute with VISA on 5/16, They called me last week and said they were going to refund my money and close the dispute. He has 45 days to respond. But the money was credited back to my account last week.

I received my Hawk this week. I ordered it back in February. 16 week wait, but at least it worked out.

I like it a lot, very nice. I ordered the Trappers Hawk. I wanted a smaller hawk with a poll. It will work very well for a belt hawk/axe which I wanted. I have already made a nice sheath for it which matches my Bowie sheath.

Send Dana an email or call him. He told me that his orders have went through the roof this year and between that and his health issues he is having a hard time keeping up. I remember that he said he will probably be limiting orders so he can keep up. He was telling me that he would love to find an apprentice, but cannot find anyone that wants to do that type of work. Really sad, hell if I lived closer to where he does I would do it in a second.

I cancelled my order earlier today. It gets to a point after waiting so long you don't even want the damn things anymore.

This thread reminds me of an experience I had with George Schumway some years ago. George was a well known publisher of books on muzzle loading rifles and their history. I met him several times and he was the definition of a gentleman.
I placed an order for one of his books and heard nothing. I called, talked to him and got assurances of shipment soon. Weeks went by and I heard nothing. Finally, I wrote a letter of complaint. Shortly afterwards his wife phoned me with many apologies. What happened was George was very ill and in late stages of Alzheimers disease. She had found my original order and promised to ship when she could as there were many others waiting also. I felt badly about George but understood the situation. Eventually I did get the book. It wasn't long afterwards he passed away.
The ml community is pretty small, and, if you haven't noticed, many of the vendors are far from young.
You are entitled to refunds from Mr. Turner but do keep in mind he simply may not be able to fill the order, no need for anger. It is still a business transaction but compassion and understanding are always appropriate.

Good story, very true.

I have thought about getting into Blacksmithing. My Gr. Grandfather was a blacksmith and I have access to his forge, some tools, etc. The local community college may have some classes, I will have to look.

It seems that a lot of people are tired of the cheap manure made overseas and want good ole American Quality.

I understand completely and very aware how small our community is. I've been attending Friendship since 1986, and continue to see it shrink annually. I've also had the pleasure of chatting with Mr. Shumway on several occasions at Friendship before he became unable to attend.

I feel I was very understanding, after all I waited 5 months for an item that the website said would take 10 days. 2 separate emails (one in January and one in March) asking for delivery estimate, that were responded to the next day with a reply of "They should ship shortly" I then waited until May to cancel my order. When I did, I never received a response back.

Please understand, I'm not mad or angry. I never was. I understand health issues. I also know good business means if you promise something, and you can't deliver by your promised date, that needs to be communicated to your customers. I can't speak for his other customers, but it never was with me. One of the orders I placed was a gift. I specifically ordered the gift based on the reviews of his hawks and delivery timelines. When the time came, I had to scramble to come up with something.

Now, I want to make this completely clear and I am not insinuating anything against the owner, however, once several years ago I was ripped off by a gun maker, that being said, after no response to my request to cancel my order, I waited until the very last day that I could to file a dispute with Visa. I really don't know how I could be more understanding than that.

I even called, no answer, and left a message, asking him for better communication with his customers. I also wished him well with his health issues and that "I bear him no ill will".

I still wish him the best and hope he recovers from his health issues to continue his business and I still bear him no ill will. I sincerely wish him the best.

I tried to cancel my order the other day...he emailed me and told me considering these were hand forged you just can't cancel a order...he told me he already forged the "BLOCKS" (Forged the blocks-LMAO)and that he already had money invested in it...like he couldn't use the blocks for someone else....anyhow the wait continues...but I will promise you this....This was my first and last order I will ever..I MEAN EVER...place with him.
Too many other options out their.

Yes indeed my fellow friends....today marks 3 months since I placed my order....my sister had her new house built in 84 days..from start to finish...
I wonder what will happen first!!! Will I get these tomahawks before or after Man walks on the planet Mars?...Will I get these tomahawks before or after the Sun burns itself out? Just a thought.

I apologize but this whole issue of no refunds may be my doing. I had ordered a camp hawk from him back in February, I had waited for nearly five months before I told him to send it or refund my money.

I will not deal with him any longer either. H&B forge are cheaper, have a better track record, better reputation and longer history. I shall go with them next time.

You guys are not giving me much hope.I placed a big bucks order with FT 2months ago and have e-mailed him 2 times with no response. I understand health problems but at the same time I hate to be ignored after he runs your card the same day you place the order. I have bought his throwing knife and 4 tomahawks in the last 2 yrs and am very pleased with them but I am considering contacting visa and trying to get my money back. BTW the guys on the blade forum are discussing FT also.

Wow, I read the thread on Blade and I feel pretty fortunate to have only had to wait 16 weeks. I was looking at October Country's website and noticed they are no longer taking orders for Ft. Turner Tomahawks, definitely understandable.....

One thing I don't agree with is he takes the money upfront. Had I known how long the wait really was, I would have never ordered paying up front.

And, many people are waiting months and over paying for a basic throwing hawk that they could get from Crazy Crow for about $25. A cheap thrower will last a lifetime. For some reason, people seem to think you need to buy a "quality, custom made" tomahawk to throw at a log. :haha:

It's been over 4 months since I placed my order with this guy...no communication...just "BE PATIENT"....my patience is up....I phoned the credit card company (Visa) today and filled a dispute to get my money back.

This thread has been going on a long time.
The ml community is small and stories like this are very unfortunate. Everyone is hurt by the destruction of confidence within the fraternity. I have given money to virtual strangers who promised to ship me goods they made and always got the promised items. Conversly, I have shipped or had items shipped to me only on faith payment would be made. Never burned. Not sure I'm so trusting anymore. :(
