They are easy to hit -- as long as you are standing inside with the doors closed.

I built one of those Elgin Cutlass kits back in the late '70's. Make sure the top of the blade doesn't interfere with the bore line. If I had taken mine out and fired it, the ball would have hit the blade. A little grinding on the blade and you're good to go, but double check first before you fire it.
