I planted pretty deep in May myself. Late frost got me during Dogwood Winter last season, and I wasn't taking any chances.

Youins had drought conditions last year if I remember correctly. You'll be in better health next year, and have a bumper crop.

It did seem hotter last year.We did get some rain last week from tropical storm Alberto . The weeds loved it

I've always said that rainwater was God's MiracleGro. It sure makes the weeds grow.
It definitely is!

Sorry to get that report. Farmers and Gardners are gamblers, for sure. Sometimes we go bust overnight, other times it takes a while, but by golly it's still fun to ante up and see what hand the Lord deals out. Royal Flushes are rare (barn bustin' crops), mostly I draw a pair of deuces.

Oh, I wasn't referring to us gardeners but have you ever driven by someones "weed patch" and saw that there was a garden in there at one time? I come from a long line of farmers. We saw that there were more busts than booms.

I had an old retired small farmer tell me if you catch a couple of good years in your lifetime and paid off the mortgage you did good. By good years he meant when prices and yields were good in the same year.

The last couple of years have been busts, I guess you could call them crop failures down here in South Texas , in my garden anyway. Too hot and dry, I guess. Now it's sitting there looking terrible. We had a rain shower last week and now the weeds are taking over. I need to plow it under as it's an embarrassment to the community. But I had surgery yesterday and I'm following the doctors orders in taking it easy.If I were feeling great I doubt I get behind that tiller anyway. It's Hot out there.

Still one month to wait here up north... 
Hope you got to eat your fill of the fresh crops, and we're able to put some up until next year. I'm really happy with the weed barrier we used this year. I've got my eye on a Cherokee Purple that I'm hoping will be my first tomato sammich of the year. Between me and old Clyde my black lab, not too many cherries make it indoors. My wife is starting to get suspicious.
I know the feeling buddy. A lot of our friends on here were already enjoying some of their pickings before I even got planted. I'm just happy for anyone that got to eat some of what they planted. With all the work and money spent and time it's good when it works out.Still one month to wait here up north...

Sad to say my garden has had for this year. It getting unbearably hot and the weeds are not much shorter than the tomato plants.It is time to plow the whole mess under before the weeds go to seeds.Still one month to wait here up north...
Hopefully next season will turn out better Louis. That weed barrier is the cats behind. Not sure how big of a patch you grow, but i hardly have to weed at all. Just a few here and there where I burned the holes in to put the plants. And they pluck out pretty easy.
