Sometimes the edges of a barrel inlet need a tiny bit of relieving as we finish the inletting. Just too tight, and we don’t want to have to pry a barrel out of a forestock. It can be challenging to take a tiny bit out from the high spots and keep the sides of the inlet square and clean. Today it occurred to me that a jig for filing the tops of chainsaw bars to even and square them, might work. Bingo. It works very nicely.

Great tip! If this was sold specifically as an inlet tool to gun-makers, it would cost 4 times as much!!

Bought one and just used it. I might be new at this game. But I ain’t stoopid! It’s minimal wood removal. Perfect for that last tiny bit you need and it cleans that inside edge up perfectly. Thanks for the tip.
