Went out to the range today since it was raining and shot my GM replacement barrel on Thompson Hawken 50. Sure doesn't like a milder load any more. I had it for a month or so and at first it like 50-55 grains. Now looks like 65 grains works fine on most days. Couple days ago when it was too hot for smart people to be out I went out doesnt' much for me of course. Any way the hotter the barrel got and the hotter the day got the more it seem to like 70-75 grains. May try to go up to .50 ball, I am using pillow ticking from Walmart which I guess is .018.

Your WalMart ticking may be .015 or .018 depending upon which ticking you purchased.

As to your barrel, T/Cs are generally 1 in 48 and hte GM barrels are available in 1 in 66 which shines well with a stiffer charge.

You got what you bought, now you just need to keep working to get the most from them. It sounds like you are on the right trail in your work method.
