Don’t doubt what you say, but if you want some today, who has it and what does it cost?
It's unobtanium

And I'm holding on to my OE stash like gold

It's a prime example of "you don't know what you got till it's gone".....one day I ordered my last 25lb case of OE and didn't even know it

I just fired some 2 days ago, I took the time to breathe in some of that smoke because once I'm out, I'm out

Ok so being brand new I was confused on what I have. I actually have Scheutzen powder, which I assumed was Swiss, but looking at their website I see they have both Swiss and Scheutzen, man this stuff gets confusing.
Shoot and don’t look back. I personally find it dirty than Swiss and the old Goex, but that is just me and my opinion. Plenty of folks love and shoot Scheutzen every day. As far as confusion, Wano manufacturers both Swiss and the Scheutzen blackpowder powder for sale in the US.

At some point when you are no longer brand new to blackpowder and muzzleloading, you will likely try others powders, and then you can decided for yourself what you like and works best in your guns. Good chance you will stick with what you started with, as long at it is available.

Why I am all in on Swiss. Down the road, who knows how well the next iteration of Goex will work out. I still have cans of DuPont and other older powders I hold on to just to compare to any current powders or old published performance data.

If you want something real dirty, try some old Elephant powder. Believe they left the bark on the trees and tossed the root ball with all the dirt and rocks attached into the wood chipper when they were making their ‘proprietary’ charcoal for their powder mix.

I have heard that Elephant was filthy powder . I think I remember seeing it for sale in the early 90s

I make it a point to stay well stocked , I might even bite the bullet and get 25lb of Swiss 3f . I don't want to be at the point where I'm at the range with my final can of powder and my recreational shooting is nuked for a summer if there's nothing available even locally.

You never know when we won't be able to get any. Or like you said, the new Goex might not be good........... You have to stay one step ahead in this hobby

I waited and waited for Old Eynsford to come back on the market. In the end, with three pounds left on the shelf and no more in sight, I ordered ten pounds of 3f Swiss from Graf's when it showed up on their website. Most likely it will last me the rest of my life unless I get to do much more shooting than I'd planned on.

I'm going to start using the last of my OE in my side-hammer guns and flintlock, save the Pyrodex for my revolver and the T7 for my one and only inline.

I'm also not going to see Pyrodex or T7 on the shelf at a sporting goods store and not buy a bottle

Pyrodex works fine in my revolvers and I have a Euroarms Zouave that only gets T7. There's a use for all propellants

I think it's important to point out the support that Swiss and Schuetzen give to the shooting sports , but also, Goex is owned by Estes now so it's going to be a whole new corporate identity

I used to not be so concerned with the ethical and moral leanings of individual companies, I remember the "rumor" in the early 2000s that Russia was giving clandestine shipments of Wolf ammo to terror groups, and Wolf was itself just a "brand name" , the actual Barnaul ammunition factory sold ammo to all kinds of African warlords, South American cartels, Sandinistas, Contras, Iranians, etc etc. And I'm like, well....... 99 buck cases of 9mm ....it is what it is........cheap ammo is cheap ammo...I'm sure I had some Wolf 7.62 popped off at me, oh well , they missed.....gimme that cheap steel case 😃

Ok so being brand new I was confused on what I have. I actually have Scheutzen powder, which I assumed was Swiss, but looking at their website I see they have both Swiss and Scheutzen, man this stuff gets confusing.

It's pretty simple. The Scheutzen packaging says "Scheutzen". The Swiss packaging says "Swiss".

It's well-known that I do not like Pyrodex. It works, sort of, but not very well in most of my guns... especially when cold/damp. T7 has it's uses as well, but mostly in guns that are difficult to clean... like in-lines and especially revolvers.

I am going to try Swiss for the first time, so we'll see how I like it, but from what I have heard, it is a pretty good product. Old Eynsford was great stuff, and if/when I need more powder, I will certainly get some if it is available, otherwise, I'll look for something else.

The absolute best propellants are the ones that you can actually get.

I'm dumbing this down a bit so bear with me.

Swiss and Sheutzen are basically the same company. Swiss is a highly energetic BP made in Switzerland. Sheutzen is a 'low' energetic BP made in Germany. Sheutzen is very comparable to the previously USA made 'plain' Goex. Similar pressures, velocities, and fouling. Swiss and Goex Olde Eynsford are roughly similar in pressure, velocity, and fouling.

The Sheutzen powder you currently have in comparable to the old Goex, NOT Swiss.

This is not a bad thing.

I shot Goex for years before I tried Swiss. I was not at all disappointed with Goex. Swiss is more energetic though, and cleaner burning. I probably have enough Swiss to last the rest of my life. I'm still rooting for Goex's success, and would like to think the new owners will have a better product.

I sincerely hope you are correct. I hope Estes brings a truly world class powder to the market and is wildly successful. I just could not wait any longer for the new Goex to come fruition.

It's definitely coming back, just a matter of timing. The Dept. of Defense deemed domestic 'production of propellants' to be a critical national resource, and last summer they invested millions into Estes to get it up and running again.

Goex is absolutely coming.

Something the article below said was new to me...that the shutdown was because of some sort of accident, and not because Hodgson simply decided to shut it down for business reasons.

Yes, the shut down was because of yet another accident. Then Hogdon decided to divest themselves of the brand.

Well I hope that GOEX doesn’t become just a military production only facility. But it is worrisome if the military are footing the lions share of costs to get the plant up and running again. It would be really great if they do sell to our black powder community again. Anyway it is good news no matter.

just because clubs give away swiss powder etc., does not mean they have been given it for free. Out club still pays shipping and hazmat, and sometimes we only get it at cost.
