I know it's been talked over a few times here but just wanted to let the new folks know some Bass Pro Shops carry real BP you have to ask for it at the gun counter. I picked up two lbs.of ffg Goex last night in Nashville for $24.99 a lb. It don't hurt to bad if you say it really fast..$24.99,$24.99,$24,99. :rotf:

I had to explain what I was looking for to the sales clerk, who didn't have a clue. He called the Manager who came back to the gun counter and went in the back to get it. He told me only two people in the store could open the powder storage area and make the sell. Not all employees are approved to do so. :idunno:

Well that makes you wonder if they really don't have any when they say they don't.

Denver area (Commerce city I think) Bass Pro has BP

I'm there about 25 times a year, but 24 in a company truck & can't haul it

They don't carry it here or that's what they told me. I'll ask again when I go. We had another shop that carried it but changed management and got rid of all BP stuff. If I had known, I would have bought more BP before they sold out. They sold me a can of 1F and I didn't realize until later.

After looking at some of the "New Year " price changes on some online distributors that $24.99 for less than 5 lbs. isn't that bad after all.
There is a 2 lb. limit per person in the Nashville store per visit.

Interesting... The main store in Springfield Missouri does not carry it. I have asked many times in the past year.

Strange. This question comes up often. I phoned them and asked, answer was they do carry real bp.
But, for several years the quality of the people working there has gone downhill. I surmise the people who you talked to were lazy, unmotivated and/or poorly trained.

The Bass Pro by me sells it also, Its where I get my 4ffff for prime, that way when I order it online I can get a full 5 or 10lbs. of 2ff or 3fff. You do have to get the right person though.

that wld depend on the State yer in; Cali has a NO BP rule, so it's all 777 and other pyrodex types. Here in Oregon, I know of 2 locations where I can get goex, The Gun Works in Springfield and Muzzleloading, guns and more in Corbet Oregon (bout 40 miles East of Portland. But, to my knowledge at least, that is it.
Many it seems dont want to hassle w the ins. Co.s on the risk of carrying it. Kind of anoying because in my exp. 777 etc dont work for duck squat in a flinter.

The BPS in Clarksville, Indiana carries Goex and always seems to have between five and ten pounds of FFg, FFFg, and FFFFg in stock. I've never asked for Fg, but wouldn't be surprised to find they carry it, too! Helpful folks on this account, as it seems everyone at the gun counter has had some training on the stuff.

Had a buddy drop by basspro in Phx and they didnt even have caps. Zonie gave me a few tips on where to go but I believe I'll just pay the haz mat here soon and get 5lbs (so I can try swiss, never shot anything but Goex and 777 and Pyrodex.

Must be the case of untrained or lazy. When we were up there in October and asked there were three guys behind the counter and they all said nope we don't carry it. I asked explicitly for Goex black powder. I'm not about to beg for someone to go find out. I will just get my powder where I always have at The Mountain Man in Fayetteville.

WOW, $24.99. If I bought 25 pounds at that price , that's $623.75 plus sales tax. WOW. again. That's what it sells for around here. But, I'm a member of a reenacting group. We also are hunters here in PA. I think most people on this forum have a goodly number of friends who also shoot, that could go together and order a 25 pound order as we do. The price from our source recently (I just checked it today) went up to $15.40 per pound which includes S&H and HazMat fee delivered to one of our doors. Some one (Or two guys) needs to fill out a release form, mail it in and then you can order 25 or 50 pounds. We collect the money and then one of us orders the powder. When it arrives, the word goes out and the guys pick it up. Check it out. Go to http://www.powderinc.com/catalog/order.htm you can call or download and fax the release form to them. There are three other groups in our area, ML clubs, that order this way. In my area the shops sell for $24.99 + 7%Sales tax ($1.75) to total $26.74 per pound or higher. So 25 pounds delivered to the door is $385 even. If there are 5 friends that go together and get 5 pounds each, that would be $77 each, instead of $124.95 plus tax. So, $15.40 is better for me/us, and anyone who'd rather save a buck. It's your money and shooting cost.

That is what I do most of the time split a case amongst friends. However I was in Bass Pro and just happened to think to ask about BP and they had it. So I bought a couple of bottles of ffg that I needed. Then when I looked online at the exact source you mentioned I saw where there price for 5 lbs. or less was $24.40 a lb shipped. :shocked2: So unless someone has someone to split a case with or they just need a lb or two the Bass Pro $24.99 is not all that bad. At least it's the real deal not a sub which I don't care for.

I just bought some from Graf and Sons out of Mexico Mo. It cost 15.99 plus hazard fees unless you pick it up. I have a friend that is going to get that for me. I will post total case cost when I get it for you Missouri boys or anyone traveling through. It's the best deal I could find close to home.
