Oh well, update time, and those interested please note the following...

Somehow, someone that is either a neighbor, relative of a neighbor, or friend of a neighbor reads this forum. Whichever way, said anonymous "neighbor" person has contacted the town in which I live, and also my brothers-in-law (which own the majority of this orchard), and... well, bottom line, I have been put on notice: "NO TENTS!!! NO CAMPERS!!!" Period. As for parking, there is more than enough room off the road here on the property to accomodate more than would ever need it at one time, just keep trucks out of the orchard when it's soft/muddy. Contact me first anyhow.

Apparently allowing "lodging" on premises violates some ordinance or other, and anything other than a family overnight for fun is defined as "LODGING." My apologies to those that may have wished to camp here. But that should not deter you from the motels, B&B's, and other such around here. It'll still be a good time and should be very good hunting.

And as for the Jeep, the body-donor didn't materialize, BUT -- I found a nice lil' 2001 (last year of the XJ/Cherokees), low miles, excellent condition, $6,300 under book value. Unbelievable. I couldn't say no...

Poor poor Lucille (my old Jeep)... hehe!, oh well, that's life, I should have it this week, thank God.

well, tim, gotta keep the neighbors happy....which one owns the B&B? :rotf: like to take a ride over some day soon..(today would NOT be a good day! slipperdee!) like ta see the land and surroundings sorta get an idea..been checkin the map...got 8-12-and 20,got clinton, but it don't narrow it down much..hehehe.. i'd call ya first afore i did anything..sorry the '96 jeep didn't work out...jes hate the new inspection thing gees! okay good luck with the new one..i gotta go put my tent away....darn! hehehe  RC

Hey, RC, as for the 8/12/20 stuff, that's where you'll find the State Forest lands, most commonly called "Tassle Hill Wilderness Area," some call it "Wildlife" insteadm of wilderness... whatever, it's there. Some road name that might help narrow it down are White Street (in Waterville area), Mapledale Road, Hardscrabble Hill Road, and Donley Road (in the Bridgewater area), along with Lewis Road and (I think?) Stevens Road off Rte 12.

As for where I live, look at "Kellogg Street" in the Town of Kirkland (NOT "Kellogg Road," which is in Washington Mills), I'm about 1/2 mile west of Rte. 12 on the north side of Kellogg. I'm just about 2.5 miles east of the Village of Clinton (remember, Oneida County; lots of people look up "Clinton County," that's a couple hundred miles northeast of here!), and the intersection of Kellogg and 12 is called "Chuckery Corners," after the Chuckery Creamery that stood on that site in the late 1700's/early 1800's. An aerial map or even a USGS quadrangle will show the orchard here. Along this section of Rte. 12, the road is almost due north-south, and kellogg is almost due east-west. The road is 55mph with deep ditches, so parking on the road itself won't do at all. And, my driveway (also the orchard entrance; there's no market here, this is just one of the several orchards that my in-laws own throughout the state, the storeroom is in New Hartford) is at the bottom of a small but slippery hill, and on a curve that runs northwesterly. There's plenty of parking just off the highway in the orchard. You'll see what I mean.

See if this link works or not, I can't be sure:

That's kind of long, so you might have to copy the whole thing and paste it into the web browser. But it should put you at just the right scale, too.

If that link works, you'll see Kellogg Street running more or less left-right, the orchard above Kellogg (I'm right at that curve on Kellogg that I mentioned), and NY Rte. 12 off to the right, running up and down the photo. That little housing development is off Rte.12. Kellogg turns into Red Hill Road (ought to give you an idea of the iron content in our soil, and our water!) when it crosses east of Rte. 12. Further west on Kellogg, you'll see another road coming in from the bottom, or south, and that is Craig Road. The road that cuts off the southwest corner at a diagonal in the picture is Fountain Street.

I wondered about the wisdom of giving out such detailed information... but what the heck, anyone could find out more than that these days in less time with less effort if they had the inclination.

Today we had close to 80 turkeys within shotgun distance of the back door. Come on, May 1st!!!!

oooops... ignore that little red marker down in the southeast corner of the map. It has nothing to do with any of this... just a little leftover from when I was giving someone else an idea for taking some breathtaking photographs last summer... dang it... sorry for that.

closer look

That's a ten-year-old photo. Not a lot of changes other than a few more houses built around here since then, and some rows of trees torn out and replanted. But that'll give you an idea what it looks like.

In the first link, measure about 3/4 mile west along Kellogg from the hard curve at my house, and that's where I hit the deer. ...that killed my Jeep... lots of deer-car accidents along that stretch of road, every year, every season.
