Another morning spent out on the range. Left is my best 5 shot target at 25 yards. Right is a 10 shot target at 50 yards. I've been loading a bit light to get used to "cheek Shooting" but I think I need to up the powder a bit. Now I just need to stay in the shop until I get this sucker finished ;) Shooting this puppy is really addictive!

Hey Vern, you still with us?

How are you doing with your wheellock sporting gun?

Now I just need to stay in the shop until I get this sucker finished ;) Shooting this puppy is really addictive!

You got us all drooling showing us what you'd accomplished so far, then silence. I for one would sure like to see how that stock turned out.

Anyone else doing anything with wheellocks lately?

I'll be going out to pick up some more around April or May. It's in a railroad cut so there is plenty there. Since I didn't have a wheellock when I got it, I only picked up a couple of small pieces, enough to make 6 cuts. While working on the pistol lock, I tried samples of all the pyrite I had or could get and this works the best. We've used up 3 shooting the pistol and so far it's fired consistently. I'll be glad to share when I get it. I'll probably pick up 5 or 10 pounds. Maybe a bit more now that I think about it ;)

Hmmmmm.....

OK, I'll pick up 15 or 20 pounds ;) This stuff is about as consistent as flint or maybe a bit better. I know I've never shot my flintlock pistols as much as we've shot the wheellock pistol in the past couple of weeks. It's a facinating gun to shoot and I think the rifle will be even better!

Has anyone here heard from Vern of late? His last post was in April and he hasn't replied to my PM's.

Just wondering since a few of us Wheellock shooters of the forum were interested in the pyrites he uses for the Wheellock he is building.

Is he ok? ::

Sorry if :eek:ff:
