GPH slick side lock

I just purchased a GPH from a member on this site which is a beautiful gun. I noticed the lock plate was smooth and flat. My other GPRs have some scrolling cast into them. Is this a newer lock design or what Lyman put on GPH's. I am anxious to get out and see how much better I can do with the peep sights.

Guessing - I would say it's a replacement L&R lock.

I’ve seen smooth GPR locks flat and with no cast scrolling. Is the main spring a coil spring?

My GPR has a smooth lock. It was purchased in the early 90's

Ok thanks for the comments. I didn't think about a replacement lock. It does not have the verticle lines like the L and R picture shows. I will have to pull it and see what is on the back side and get back to you.

Having pulled the lock it has coil spring. I also looked at a for kit that has been in the safe for 15years. It is also slick. So it is still not clear when they use the different types.

Every Great Plains of my experience had a smooth lock though some were case-colored. The “engraved” locks were used on the Hawken, Deerstalker, Trade Rifle and similar.

Have five GPR's. All percussion are smooth. Flintlocks have scroll work

I was thinking this too. Mine follow this trend as well.

My all factory caplock has scrollwork on it....
