Doing inventory on things I need, I seen I was down to 4 lbs of Olde Eynesford 3F I didn't realize ive shot so much tru black as I use a lot of pyrodex. I get my powder from Grafs and seen they had their brand for 15.00 a pound. I ordered 7 lbs of Graf 2F and a pound of goex 4F. it came in yesterday so I grabbed my flintlock and my Hawken .58 and roundballs for both. I usually shoot 70 grains OE (Olde Eynsford) 3F in the flintlock and 80 grains of the same in the . 58. without working working up I shot the 70 and 80 of grafs 2f in both. I noticed recoil wasn't as much, it still smoked.
Both rifles shot well. I do add a wonder wad over powder in both guns and am able to recover patches with no burnout. I start vacation in a couple days so may have to hunt some hogs after I return from shark fishing. glad a cheaper powder shoots well.

I like the Graf powders too. They are actually repackaged Schuetzen powder.

I've only used Goex and have been happy with it. But comparisons between Goex and Grafs/Schuetzen seems to give the edge to Grafs, especially since the Grafs is less expensive. Guess it's time to place an order and find out for myself. Glad you brought up the topic.

Good to hear about the Graf's, that's probably what I'll go with when I order more BP. Sad, the black powder club I've been a member of for a few years used to buy bulk powder and let members purchase it, but membership has all but dried up and I don't believe the club is going to exist after this year.

I've only used Goex and Schuetzen. I find that if I've sighted in with one of them I can use the same charge in the other brand and POI remains the same. I would give a very slight edge to the Schuetzen as far as fouling.

Have you noticed the grain size being a little smaller on the Graffs compared to regular Goex? Pour some out side by side on white paper and take a look. My rifles shoot the best with 5grains less of Graffs with my standard charge of Goex.

Hate to hijack, but thoughts on Goex anyone?
I like goex I have a coulpe of lbs of 2f and 3f 1 lb 4f. it boils down to what your rifle likes, I know its expensive but trying various powders along wit patch size and ballthe rifles I shoot goex in really like it. I wemt with grafs powder because after hazmat fee shipping my bill was under 100.00 which I can live with that

yes sir you are correct I read someplace about the charge difference so I did the same. I don't shoot at long ranges about 50 max I didn't notice a lot of difference in froup size
