Grains weight to the ball for 20-gauge?

If it is 20 balls per pound, does it calculate out to be 350 grains?

Does 20 balls per pound mean balls of 0.62, .61, or what?

Do you know of a formula or chart where I can get -- or can calculate -- grains for other gauges if I know the ball caliber. Or do I need to know the weight of lead per cubic inch and go that way.

My problem is that I still think in grains.
 
There are 7000 grains in a pound. 7000 divided by 20 =350.
Nominally this is a 20 bore= .625 or so bore, but the balls used are genrally less (.600 or less).
 
try this:

diameter x diameter x diameter x 1505 = grains

a 20 bore works out:
.615 x .615 x .615 x 1505 = 350

if you run .60 rb in that 20:
.600 x .600 x .600 x 1505 = 325 grains
..

My .595 pure lead round ball is 310 grs.
:hatsoff: By Beerd's forumal .595 = 317 grains so everything checks. Thanks!!!!

Now old professor Gabby can run the numbers and find out who is boilerhousing and who is telling the truth.
