I think Ive used and tried about everything out there and have settled on this.
Since all my guns are Hawken style I pull the wedges and stick the breech in a pail of very warm water and go to town with a tight fitting jag and patch drawing the water up the barrel. Then I use a patch on a tight fitting brush soaked either with diluted Ballistol or a mix of water ,alcohol and Murphy's. I keep running patches till they come out clean. Then a few dry patches. Then some soaked with WD-40. Next day I'll either run a patch down there to check and apply some other heavier oil for corrosion protection. For long term storage there is nothing like RIG or Outers gun grease.
